In response to questions from abortion opponent Sen. Josh Hawley (R., Mo.), Kennedy referenced a new insurance data analysis by the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center that concluded adverse events from the abortion pill are higher than stated by the Food and Drug Administration.
“It’s alarming and clearly it indicates that at very least the label should be changed,” Kennedy said, adding that he has asked FDA Commissioner Marty Makary to do a review on the matter that is a priority for him.
The FDA has said mifepristone is safe to use as directed but that prolonged bleeding and infection can occur rarely after all abortions.
Kennedy said he would make a recommendation about abortion pill restrictions but that the decision “will ultimately go through the White House, through President Trump.
